The Catholic Diocese of Enugu was raised as an independent See on November 12, 1962, carved out of the Onitsha Archdiocese. From 17 original parishes it has grown into one of the most vibrant dioceses in Nigeria.
Under the pastoral leadership of Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Chukwuma Onaga, the fifth Bishop of Enugu, the Diocese continues to grow in faith, service, and infrastructure.
The Diocese is divided into six deaneries — each a network of parishes led by a Dean and serving thousands of Catholic faithful in its locality.
The Diocese operates 4 hospitals, 11 maternity centres, and 6 care homes across Enugu State — combining quality medical care with the Church's healing mission. Pastoral chaplaincy is available at every facility.
Under episcopal leadership renewed each generation, the Diocese continues the work of the Gospel in Enugu State.
